East Midlands Chamber and The Food and Drink Forum are delivering this event on behalf of the Smart Innovation and Networking for Growth (SING) project. This project is part funded through ERDF and delivered by The iNet through Loughborough University
Innovation is a key focus for the food and drink industry and accounts for over 4% of the total R&D spend reported in the UK’s annual R&D Scoreboard. Due to the highly competitive nature of the industry, there are over 1,500 new products introduced each quarter through a mix of product, packaging and process innovation.

Benefits of Packaging Innovation in Your Business - Dr Janet Shipton, Director, Packknack Ltd- Janet assists food and drink manufacturers with food packaging innovation and development and has worked in high profile roles at global FMCG businesses, such as Mondelez International (formally Kraft), Chesapeake Branded Packaging and Boots the Chemist, but has also supported SME manufacturers through Sheffield Hallam "Design Futures" where she co-wrote a book and various research papers around packaging research and innovation. She also held the part-time position of Principal Lecturer in packaging design and innovation at the University.
Janet will be provide a short presentation illustrating how SME food and drink manufacturers benefit from packaging innovation and the principle stages in the innovation process to enable success in their businesses.
A short Q&A session will also be offered so that you can ask Janet pertinent questions about packaging innovation in your business.
Royal Tea and Shelton's Coffee- Case Study - Tenants at Leicester Food Park, Royal Tea and Shelton's Coffee, will provide short case studies about their innovation journeys and how it has helped their businesses grow.
The iNet - Details of the support available which includes a mixture of fully funded access to expertise and cooperation with university research centres and institutes and part-funding (grant) towards external costs of innovation projects
Places are limited and priority will be given to SME businesses based in Leicester and Leicestershire and be engaged in the general area of one of LLEP’s priority sectors, which include:
