The Company

Multi-Medix are specialists in ultrasound, offering a range of independent quality solutions at affordable prices. Their clients include hospitals, healthcare professionals, business’s and veterinarians.

What they do

Multi-Medix offers a comprehensive range of high quality ultrasound probe/transducer sales, test and repair services, utilising specialist test equipment.

Manufacturers of ultrasound probes only batch check the quality of the probes which means that they typically have around 10% failure rate. This is not acceptable to many users who are dependent on the probes working. Instead they turn to Multi-Medix to supply, test and maintain the probes. This service ensures that they experience significantly reduced downtime compared to those who only deal directly with the manufacturers.

In addition, the company also repair and test pre-used probes, and offer a loan service when probes are in for maintenance.

The Challenge

The company contacted The iNet during a period of rapid growth with plans to further double their turnover in the following year. To facilitate this planned growth, they needed to move to larger premises and had embarked on a project to refurbish their new building. To take advantage of the extra floor space, they wanted to purchase additional technician workstations.

The Solutions

Multi-Medix Ltd applied to The iNet for grant funding from the ERDF Productivity and Capability Enhancement (PACE) programme towards the purchase of the laboratory equipment required for expansion:

  • 4 fully kitted anti-static workstations complete with magnifying lamps and vices – required for equipment testing and repair
  • technical area computer workstation – required for recording, analysing and reporting test results
  • flow-management racking for technician work in progress (essential for quality system)

The Outcome

Multi-Medix Ltd were able to move into their new premises in May 2018 and fully kit out an additional 4 workstations increasing their workstation capacity from 4 to 8. This has enabled them to effectively deliver growth in activity with existing and new clients.

The expanded facility and additional workstations, racking and computers has allowed Multi-Medix to realise more efficient workflow, enabling greater volumes of activity. The increased activity has resulted in the appointment of a Customer Service Representative and ongoing recruitment to add to the technical team.

The iNet team were great in supporting our application for ERDF PACE grant funding, and the outcome has definitely supported our growth in the last 12 months, when cash flow has been a key challenge. I recommend others investigate how iNet may support them.
