The Company

Lifeplan Products Ltd was founded in Leicestershire in 1983 with around 70 employees. They produce food supplements and licensed herbal medicines in a pharmaceuticals licensed premises.

What they do

Lifeplan manufacture and package tablets and capsules which are sold under their own brand of supplements. They also manufacture products for other companies based in the UK and Europe. Over the last 35 years the company has expanded its product range from just 33 items to over 280 vitamins, minerals and supplements, including organic and Vegan ranges.

All products in the Lifeplan range are manufactured in the UK, in line with the Good Manufacturing Practice (GMP), and the company holds an MHRA pharmaceutical licence, Kosher Accreditation, Vegan Accreditation and have been approved by the Soil Association.

The company also operates a recycle and reuse policy and source green energy where possible.

The Challenge

The company is developing new health products on a regular basis to meet the requirements of changing lifestyles, both in Europe and the Middle East.

As a result, the business has been growing quickly, and they were on target to achieve 25% growth in the last financial year. They were already operating close to full capacity so in order to maintain this level of growth, they needed to invest in new machinery and people in order to meet customer requirements and to prepare for future demand.

The Solution

The company decided they needed to purchase a new capsule machine similar to an existing one which would allow them to use their existing tools on both machines.

The company applied to the iNet’s ERDF PACE (Productivity and Capability Enhancement) programme for grant funding towards the new machine and were awarded a grant covering 38% of the cost.

The Outcome

The acquisition of the new machinery has enabled the business to increase capsule production to 1 million plus capsules per day. Three new members of staff have been recruited which has strengthened the team and helped in securing future business.

From start to finish all members of the team were extremely helpful and we were kept fully informed with progress at all times. Every effort was made to ensure that this process was as smooth as possible for which we are most grateful.
