The Company

Advanced Industrial Engineering has been working in mechanical and manufacturing engineering within the Aerospace and Automotive industries since 2015. With both large blue chip and SME clients the company has developed a wealth of experience and knowledge within the field of mechanical design, manufacture and installation of mechanical systems.

What they do

Advanced Industrial Engineering Ltd (AIE) is a supplier of mechanical and automated systems, professional engineering services and facility integrators. AIE prides itself on their inherent precision, quality and integrity through the project lifecycle. They supply a professional in-house engineering service from Design, Manufacture, and Installation to CE Technical Documentation of mechanical systems.

The Challenges

As part of AIE’s strong growth plan they were aiming to increase in-house manufacture. The initiative would increase productivity, reduce overheads and lead time on projects, inprove quality and increase the company’s net value.

The next phase of their plan was to bring more of the complex machining work in-house. To deliver this capacity they needed to purchase a 3 Axis CNC Milling Machine which it was hoped would give them far better control over quality and lead times.

In addition to carrying out the machining for their own projects, AIE plan to market this new machining capability resulting in a new revenue stream of sub-contract machining.

AIE also wanted to purchase a specialist design software package to enhance their innovation and design capabilities.

The Solutions

Advanced Industrial Engineering applied to The iNet for funding from the ERDF Productivity and Capability Enhancement (PACE) programme towards the purchase of a 3 Axis CNC Milling Machine and 3D View Station software.

The Outcome(s)

The acquisition of the new 3 Axis CNC Milling Machine and 3D manipulation design software has made a huge positive impact on project completion efficiency and quality to AIE. This has been achieved by the following:

  • in house manufacture increase from 40% to 85%,
  • manufacture lead time reduction by 60%,
  • overall project cost and business overhead reduction, and
  • the addition of a new technical staff member to run the new machine full time.

We found this funding programme through our local council. With the assistance of The iNet team at Loughborough University the whole application process was very efficient. This grant funding has been a considerable benefit to AIE and allowed us to exceed our growth plans pulling the procurement of our new machine forward by 6 months. I wish to thank The iNet team greatly for their continued assistance throughout our successful application
